1. What is rubber base?
AΒ rubber baseΒ is a flexible base coat that bends with your natural nail plate. Rubber base has a thicker consistency than regular base coats. It provides better adhesion to the natural nail plate and reduces the chance of loosening, flaking or breaking of the artificial nails.
A rubber base coat is therefore ideal for people with fragile and brittle nails. It protects your nails from damage and ensures that your artificial nails stay on longer.
2. What are the properties of a rubber base?
A rubber base coat has a thick consistency, which distinguishes it from traditional base coats that tend to be more runny. This makes it less likely to run into the cuticles and nail folds.
Another important feature of a rubber base is that it remains flexible even after it has hardened. This means that it moves with the natural nail plate and protects the nails from cracking. TheΒ Expert rubber baseΒ However, Mistero Milano is a bit harder because of the fibers present.
A rubber base also has self-leveling properties, meaning it evens out the natural nail plate, creating a perfectly smooth surface that makes applying subsequent nail products easier.
One of the main advantages of rubber base is that it can extend the natural nail plate by up to 5 mm. The product also allows to reconstruct a damaged nail and restore its correct shape.
3. Why do you need to apply a rubber base?
A rubber base ensures better adhesion of the artificial nails to the natural nail plate. But this is not the only advantage of rubber base coat. It also evens out the irregularities of your natural nails, making the application of subsequent nail products easier. Due to the thicker consistency of a rubber base, you can also extend your natural nails to a limited extent.
A rubber base is ideal for people with brittle and weakened nails, because it strengthens the nails. It can even be used in combination with different nail techniques such as: gel, acrylic, and polygel. It provides extra reinforcement.
4. How do you apply/remove a rubber base?
4.1 Apply rubber base.
Applying a rubber base is done in the same way as applying a regular base coat. Below we explain step by step how to do this best.
Preparing nails:Β Before applying the rubber base coat, it is important to prepare your nails well. Then applyΒ nail prepΒ andΒ primerΒ to improve the adhesion of the rubber base coat.Β
Applying rubber base: When the primer has dried completely, you can start applying a rubber base. Apply a thin layer and make sure your entire nail is covered.
Curing: Cure the rubber base coat under a UV/LED lamp . It is important to use the correct curing times, which are stated on the packaging of the base coat or on the product page of the supplier/manufacturer.
Next steps of the manicure:Β Now that the rubber base coat has hardened, you can continue with the next steps of the manicure. Apply a layer of gel polish in the desired color and let it harden under a lamp. Finish the manicure with aΒ top coatΒ for extra shine and protection.
4.2 Remove rubber base
Removing a rubber base is just like removing a regular base coat. There are three different methods to remove aΒ rubberbase to remove : files, a milling machine or the soak off method. With the soak off method you first have to remove the top coat (file it off) before you can remove the rest.
If you are not experienced in using a nail drill, we recommend that you do not attempt to do this yourself. This can be dangerous to your own nails or those of your clients.
5. How long does a rubber base coat need to cure?
It is important to know how long you need to cure a rubber base coat. The curing time can vary depending on the nail lamp you use and the recommended times from the manufacturer/supplier. It is therefore important to read this information carefully before you start curing the rubber base.
In general, a rubber base takes longer to cure under a UV lamp than under a UV/LED lamp. It is also important to consider the wavelength of the lamp, because a lower wavelength can affect the curing of the gel polish.
As a guideline, we have listed the average curing times of a rubber base coat for you below. But don't forget to check the exact times on the packaging or on the website of the supplier/manufacturer.
- UV/LED lamp: 30-60s
- UV lamp: 120-180s
6. What is the adhesive layer of a rubber base coat?
A sticky layer is a sticky layer that forms on your nails after you apply the rubber base. This is because the oxygen in the air disrupts the curing process of the rubber base.
Unlike a rubber base, some top coats are designed to speed up the curing process, so that oxygen does not have time to disrupt the formation of the molecular chains. As a result, no sticky layer is created, these top coats are calledΒ no wipe top coats .
It is important to remember that you should never remove the sticky layer of a rubber base. This is because it can significantly affect the adhesion of subsequent nail products. This can lead to a reduction in the durability of your manicure.
7. Can I extend my nail with rubber base coat?
Rubber bases offer the possibility to extend your natural nail plate with the help of forms. However, it is important to know that this technique is not strong enough to extend nails with the help of nail tips. Although the extension of nails with rubber bases and forms is limited, some base coats do offer the possibility to extend your nails up to 5 mm.
8. What is the difference between regular base coat and rubber base?
The biggest difference between a regular base coat and a rubber base is the consistency. A regular base coat is thin and becomes very hard after curing, while a rubber base has a thicker consistency and retains its flexibility after curing. In contrast to a regular base coat, a rubber base provides better adhesion and extra reinforcement of problematic nail plates. A rubber base is a flexible base that easily bends with the natural nail plate. The thicker consistency of a rubber base ensures that you can also extend your natural nails to a limited extent using templates. Extending your natural nails is not possible with a regular base coat.
9. What is the difference between rubber base and builder gel in bottles?
One of the main differences betweenΒ builder gel in bottleΒ and a rubber base is the flexibility. Rubber base is much more flexible than bottled builder gel, which means it is better suited for problematic nail plates. This is because rubber base moves with the natural nail plate and protects the nails from cracking and bumps.
Rubber base is a base that is slightly thicker in consistency than standard bases. Due to the thicker consistency, you can apply it slightly thicker to the nail plate and thus even out irregularities of the natural nail plate and at the same time provide a little more strength.
A builder gel in a bottle is, as the name suggests, a builder gel in a bottle. Since builder gels in a bottle are not bases, you still need to apply a base under these gels. They are builder gels that you can apply quite thinly for a natural look. Thanks to the slightly runny consistency, you can perfectly build up and smooth out your nails without having to file them afterwards, unlike with standard builder gels. The only disadvantage is that you can only make short artificial nails with builder gels in a bottle.
